Meet Dr. Rajesh Hiralal
A beacon of excellence in cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Rajesh Hiralal leads Surrey Heart Centre with a rich background and a passion for patient-centric care His passion for medicine and care for people has helped his patients take better control of their health. His extensive training at UBC for medical school, McMaster University for Internal Medicine and Cardiology, and specialized training in Cardiovascular Imaging at NYU in NYC reflect a commitment to excellence.
“I had been drawn to cardiology early on because I felt that it truly complimented my talents, challenged my skills, and satisfied my career goals. I am excited by the active role that cardiologist have in caring for patients and I am interested in the wide range of skills and knowledge required of a cardiologist in today’s world. I take my job very seriously and reflect it through my centre and the services that I provide my patients. I have made it my life goal to dedicate my resources and expertise to understanding, treating, and preventing heart disease.
Our Team
Dr. Hiralal is the current director of the Surrey Heart Centre. He is a general cardiologist with fellowship training in advanced cardiac imaging.
Dr. Hiralal completed his medical school at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Hiralal went on for further medical training at McMaster University where he completed an Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology fellowship training. Dr. Hiralal then went on to complete an Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship at New York University.
Dr. Hiralal is currently a consultant cardiologist at Surrey Memorial Hospital and Jim Pattison Outpatient Surgical Centre in Surrey and also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Hiralal is fluent in Gujrati, hindi and Punjabi to better serve his community.
Dr. Sarkaria grew up in Surrey and did his under graduate degree in Biochemistry at UBC. He did his General Internal Medicine residency at Central Michigan University and has been practising since 2017.
Dr. Sarkaria practices General Internal Medicine with special interest in Cardiology (focusing on coronary artery
disease, arrhythmias, and valve disease), Endocrinology (focusing on diabetes mellitus), and Hepatology.
Outside work Dr. Sarkaria likes to spend time on outdoor activities such as hiking, and participating in obstacle courses. He is also a big foodie and likes to explore new restaurants
and is an avid cook. He is also fluent in Punjabi and Hindi to better serve the community of Surrey.
Dr. Nazzari began his academic career by completing his PhD in cardiovascular physiology at the University of British Columbia, where he received a first-class standing and doctoral awards from the National Science and Engineering Research Council and Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.
Dr. Nazzari then went on to complete his MD at the University of Toronto. Following this Dr. Nazaari eturned to British Columbia and completed Internal Medicine and Cardiology residency training at the University of British Columbia. He completed his training with an advanced echocardiography clinical and research fellowship at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Nazzari is also in Fluent in Farsi to better serve his community.
Dr. Calvin Tong is an advanced heart failure-trained cardiologist. He sees a wide variety of cardiac patients. He has particular interests in cardiomyopathies including cardiac amyloidosis, heart function optimization, and health administration.
Dr. Tong completed his medical training, internal medicine residency and general cardiology residency at the University of British Columbia. He then underwent Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology fellowship training at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also completed a Master of Health Administration at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Calvin Tong is also fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese to better serve his community.
